The citadel was the seat of the Kachwaha Rajputs who ruled Amer in Rajasthan before the capital was moved to the present-day Jaipur. The construction of the fort was commenced in 1592 by Raja Man Singh I over the remnants of an earlier fortified structure. The fort was built with red sandstone. It was modified by successive rulers for the next 150 years.

Today, Amer Fort is among the top tourist attractions in Jaipur. The palace’s rich history, combined with the scenic beauty of its location, attracts visitors from all over the world. It was also designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The fort is also a favourite destination for Bollywood’s filmmakers to shoot period movies, with appearances in films like Jodha Akbar, Baji Rao Mastani, Bhool Bhulaiya, and many more. If you are planning to visit Jaipur, Amer Fort is surely one place to discover the royal legacy of Rajasthan.
